A World Pro Ski Tour event had not been hosted in the U.S. in nearly two decades until a small team decided to bring it back to life. In Sunday River, Maine, the dual paneled slalom rose from the ashes, bringing with it exciting head-to-head competition and big prize money from March 10-11, 2017.

Temperatures may have remained well below zero on race day, but the competition was on fire. The winner, David Chodounsky of the U.S. Ski Team, brought home $10,000, while second-place finisher AJ Ginnis walked away with $5,000. In fact, every athlete in the top 32 skied away with at least $250, which covered registration fees plus an extra $100 of spending money.

With one successful race under their belt, the organizers are optimistic that the World Pro Ski Tour has a future and they hope to launch a full season schedule in 2018.
