Breckenridge Ski Resort Opens New Gondola
Breckenridge Ski Resort opened the much-anticipated BreckConnect Gondola on Sunday, transforming the way visitors access the town and mountain.
Connecting the town with the Colorado ski resort’s base areas, the BreckConnect begins at the Breckenridge Transportation Center, located in the parking lot right off historic Main Street, and continues onto a terminal at Peak 8 with a terminal at Peak 7 opening in 2008. In addition to stops at the base areas, the new gondola will include a mid-station at Shock Hill. By creating a new central base area with full skier amenities, it will change the way skiers and snowboarders access and move around the mountain, the new base area developments at Peak 7 and 8 and Breckenridge’s Main Street.
“The BreckConnect Gondola creates the ideal balance between the character of Breckenridge’s Downtown and the world-class ski resort – the two pieces that continually rank Breckenridge as one of the top winter destinations,” said Roger McCarthy, co-president of Vail Resorts’ mountain division and chief operating officer of Breckenridge.
The BreckConnect is one of the most modern gondolas in North America with seating for eight and room for ski and ride gear inside. Right now, the ski resort plans to operate the gondola in both the winter and summer seasons. It will have a ride time of approximately ten minutes from the transportation center to the base of Peak 8 and will be able to carry 2,800 people per hour.
