Vancouver, BC (Ski Press)-Both Deidra Dionne and Marc-André Moreau will be taking the 2006/2007 FIS Freestyle World Cup season off to recuperate from injuries.
Dionne, the 2002 Olympic Aerials bronze medallist, had a well chronicled, serious neck injury during training at a World Cup event in September 2005.
After several hours of surgery she made a miraculous recovery in time to compete at the 2006 Olympics in Torino. But her medical team has advised her to take this year off to rebuild her physical strength to ensure she is strong enough to prevent any other injuries.
“I have full intention of jumping as soon as my body is fit and ready,” said Dionne from Kelowna, BC where she is doing her rehabilitation under the guidance of Canadian Freestyle Ski Team strength and conditioning coach Adrian King. “I’m very serious about Vancouver and am doing all the right things to ensure my success at the 2010 Games.”
In addition to her rehabilitation and a focus on increasing her skills through trampoline training, Dionne will be finishing her Bachelor of Arts degree at the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia.
Chambly, Quebec’s Marc-André Moreau, who had a fourth place finish at the Torino Olympics in moguls and is the reigning World silver medallist, had successful surgery on July 13th to repair a chronic hip injury. He will be starting his physiotherapy this week in Montreal and will be concentrating on rebuilding the muscle mass in his left leg.
“I expect to be back on skis sometime this winter” said Moreau, “but I won’t be able to get back to competition until next season. Vancouver 2010 is definitely on my mind but I have to take this one day at a time.”
In addition to his physical recovery program Moreau will be starting an Administration Certificate program at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) this fall.
The rest of the Canadian Freestyle Ski Team continues to train at Lac Beauport, Quebec (aerial team) and at Camp Green on the Farnham Glacier in BC (mogul team) in preparation for the start of the FIS World Cup season in December.
